Dr. Joan Chen, MD
Dr. Joan Chen is a Board Certified Anesthesiologist.
Dr. Chen completed her undergraduate training at Stanford University as a David Starr Jordan Scholar, finishing a Bachelor’s Degree with honors in Biology in 1994. She then continued on to medical school at Stanford, at the time also doing research in immunology and virology. After finishing medical school in 1998, Dr. Chen completed her medical internship and residency in Anesthesia at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) in 2002.
Though originally a Texas native, Dr. Chen has been in northern California since 1990 and currently enjoys private practice anesthesia primarily at Washington Hospital in Fremont. She also holds medical staff privileges at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View. She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the California Society of Anesthesiologists, and the Santa Clara County Medical Association. Dr. Chen’s publications include a chapter she co-authored on Cardiovascular Anesthesia for Valvular Disease.
Outside of the operating room, Dr. Chen’s interests include playing the clarinet and piano.
